Havlicek_stole_the_ball_50_anniversary_eventBefore the beginning of the second quarter the Boston Celtics fans and members of the organization gave their legend John “Hondo” Havlicek a standing ovation while he accepted an award to commemorate the legendary “Havlicek Stole the Ball!” play. This play was immortalized after announcer Johnny Most made the call in his charismatic fashion after Havlicek intercepted a pass that was directed to Philadelphia 76ers high scorer Chet Walker, who was looking to make the game winning basket and send the Sixers to the NBA Finals. No one appreciated this play more than Boston Celtics teammate Bill Russell who had committed a turnover on the previous play when his inbound pass hit a support wire in the stadium. John was happy that he got a chance to celebrate his legendary play with three generations of his family.
