The 2014-15 season was a great one for UVA Cavaliers as they had somewhat of a Cinderella run that included an undefeated streak in the regular season that extended to 19 games, with their first loss coming from eventual champions Duke. The Cavaliers dream season ended in the third round with a loss to the Michigan State Spartans, this wasn’t due to a lack of heart as continuously through the season they beat teams using sound fundamentals along with excellent team defense.
Draft Stock Rises
UVA Junior Justin Anderson, who was the team’s second leading scorer this season declared himself eligible for the 2015 NBA Draft and was projected to be a second round pick in most mock drafts. During the NBA Draft Combine players get a chance to show NBA scouts both their on and off court abilities and Justin did just this. He impressed scouts his athletic ability while performing well in shooting drills and displaying a hard working personality. After his performance, most mock drafts had him being selected as a late first round pick.
This highlights the work ethic of UVA players as some have gone on to have successful basketball careers in the NBA or overseas, work in the NBA corporate office and innovators in our society. Even though the Cavaliers will miss the leadership of Justin, they wish him the best and are looking forward to the start of the new season where they look to have a better performance than their last.
